24th Apr 2010 Speyside Whisky Festival at Muckrach Lodge

Muckrach Lodge is growing increasingly excited about the Speyside Whisky Festival which is taking place next week, and of which we are greatly honoured to be participating in. The festival, which is now more than ten years old, offers a unique celebration of the Whisky created and enjoyed in the area, and remembers the history and culture of the manufacture and revelry of the drink. Celebrated on the first May bank holiday weekend it draws people from far and wide with its intoxicating blend of fine food, provincial music and family orientated entertainment. Indeed, though the theme may be of whisky the ethos is certainly that of fun and all ages can appreciate the glorious backdrop of the River Spey and its surrounding townships.
The festival offers a veritable journey through the heart of Whisky country, with events and visitor attractions available from Aberlour to Knockando, and with the entire Whisky community involved there is certainly more to experience than the average distillery tour. The cooperage in Dufftown will be open to the public so that we can witness first hand the intricacies of creating the whisky barrels on the shop floor, book signings by famous Whisky authors and experts will be scattered throughout the counties, Whisky walks are on offer to while away sunny afternoons, a host of live musicians will be creating the perfect mood for us to raise a glass to and an abundance of tastings, lectures and master classes will be on offer for all.

Here at Muckrach Lodge we have embraced the festival to allow our kitchen to demonstrate the perfect unions which can be found between our rustic high quality cuisine and the delicate and varied notes of the Whiskies which Speyside has to offer. We will have the great honour of being joined in the restaurant by Dr David Wishart a reputable whisky analyst, researcher and author, who will be our knowledgeable guide through the historic classification of the malts. Dr Wishart, who holds a PhD in classification methodology, has come together with our kitchen team to create a menu of traditional Highland fare to accompany the regions most characteristic drams. With the fires roaring and the candles flickering to the satisfied sighs of our guests, it is shaping up to be a memorable weekend.

The evening has already proven such a success that there are few places left, however we can still offer an unforgettable evening of high quality food and fantastic whisky within our romantic country house hotel for a few more lucky souls. Feel free to give us a call to check for availability and make sure to remember that it is a bank holiday weekend and therefore the perfect chance to nurse a well deserved hangover with a guilt free conscience.

For now, Slainte!
