25th Feb 2010 The Snow 2 - Revenge of the Snow

Just when you thought it was safe to go back on the golf courses, just when you thought you would get the bike out and pump up those much neglected wheels, just when you thought that you had washed the last grains of grit and salt from your car.... the snow must go on!

Okay, so for some of us up here amiable looking snowmen have taken on a rather sinister appearance and the mere mention of slush puppies or snow cones will bring us close to petrified tears. Yet for the majority of Highlanders the snow season continues to be a blessing which has seen our peaceful peaks packed with die hard snow sports enthusiasts. There has certainly been a buzz about town these last couple of months and one which not even the double minus figures can put a freeze on. The snows have brought us people from all over the world, and the streets have been filled with a much welcome excitement as a montage of people have scurried to and from our snow sports shops, our fire lit bars and our well stocked restaurants.

So when the first flurries of new snow picked up yesterday even the must shivering cynic had to shrug and say "Well a little more snow could not hurt."

Thirty hours and 20 Inches of fresh snow later the No-men have given up moaning and the Snowmen are back in business.

So for all those who have been putting of getting on piste, now is certainly the time. The Ski resorts on the mountains will be making their best efforts to control this latest drop, but it means that for the next couple of weeks at least we will have a new covering of virgin snow for the adrenaline seekers out there to tear up.

So why not give us a shout here at the lodge, we have our log fires roaring, a seasonal and mouth watering three course a la carte menu to warm up the coolest of snow boarders, and enough streaming hot chocolate to defrost the Alps.

Happy Skiing!
