Whisky Wisdom

Muckrach is perfectly placed as a gateway to the Whisky Experience. Several distilleries and a cooperage are within a short drive, and the famed Spey water runs right past the the front of the hotel. In the bar itself, there are nearly 100 different Scottish whiskies, each one standing as a testament to the magic, versatility and skill of the makers of Scotland's greatest product.

We invite you to gain a little Whisky Wisdom with us. If there's anything you need that is not in this package, just ask. We'll happily arrange flights, train tickets, and airport/station transfers to and from the hotel. If your travelling partner or children don't fancy Whisky Wisdom, we'll be delighted to arrange shopping trips, spa treatments or sporting activities for them to enjoy whilst you get The Wisdom! If you don't fancy the full two day whisky experience we can tailor the package for you - prices start at just £25 per person for a tutored tasting of five whiskies.

Day 1

Arrive at the hotel, settle down and join your fellow guests in the bar for an informal Scotch whisky tasting. Enjoy the difference between blends and singles, between islands and lowlands, and apply tasting techniques to them all. Then enjoy our four course gourmand dinner with malt whiskies specially chosen for the occasion.

Day 2

Fortified by our full service Scottish breakfast, you'll be ready for a tour of one of our small, local distilleries like Tomintoul or Glenfarclas. The great thing about whisky tours is that the examples are not on a projected slide but in a glass for your own enjoyment. We provide the transport so you don't have to worry, as you sip your way through Scotland's finest product.

In the afternoon you'll visit the Spey Valley cooperage, where whisky barrels have been made for centuries. Armed with all this knowledge, you'll be in perfect shape to enjoy an informal talk back at the hotel on cooking with whisky. After a whisky cocktail or two specially invented for Muckrach by the head barman at the world famous Gleneagles Hotel, you'll then taste what you've learnt at our exclusive whisky themed dinner.
