We have had this lovely recommendation sent to us by Gary Dorling, who recently stayed with us at Muckrach. Gary undertook a road trip around the Cairngorms as part of his 60th birthday celebrations. Below is what Gary had to say about his journey. Thank you Gary for sharing this with us – we really enjoyed reading about your Snow Road Drive.
‘The Snow Roads Scenic Route is a 90-mile journey which has taken me from the picturesque market town of Blairgowrie (36 miles from St Andrews) through to the traditional Highland Town of Grantown-on-Spey. Onward through some outstanding landscapes on the eastern side of the Cairngorms National Park, the journey links the communities of Braemar, Ballater and the bleak one-horse town of Tomintoul.
The trip had many highlights, but the most important was my overnight stay at Muckrach…summed up in two words: Faultless and First-Class!
A warm welcoming followed by an excellent dinner, the sumptuousness of my room, the amazing breakfast …my entire experience was absolutely a wonderful one. I will certainly return to this very authentic place straight out of an Agatha Christie novel and yet not even 4 years old. I loved reading about the family behind this amazing place.
On the final section South I arrived back just outside Blairgowrie (where I started yesterday), I stopped at the Persie Gin Distillery.
I am really pleased that this last trip of my 60th Birthday year has ended on such a high note!’
