Restaurant of the Year

We are overjoyed to announce that we achieved the award for ‘Restaurant of the Year’ from The Highlands and Islands Food & Drink Awards. Our brasserie-style restaurant, Archie’s, offers a menu reflecting the best regional and seasonal produce that the area has to offer.

On hearing of Muckrach’s recent awards, Directors Phil and Ed wanted to express their thanks.

“We are absolutely delighted to hear that our Highland Hotel, Muckrach Country House Hotel has won Restaurant of the Year at this year’s Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Awards!

We fell in love with Scotland many years ago and deciding to renovate and open a hotel 400 miles from home has been a real labour of love. Having the right team up there is paramount to the running of the business, and we are thrilled with this latest accolade!

It really shows how much of an impact our Head Chef Peter Macnab has had since coming on board in March this year. In such a short space of time Peter has put in a great deal of time and effort and this has culminated in this well-deserved award. It is a testament to the fabulous larder of Scottish produce that we have available to us up there and to Peter’s creativity in his daily changing menus.

Peter our Head Chef is very creative and adventurous when creating his menus, he is passionate about using the local Scottish ingredients. He especially loves to use blueberries, rosehip, rowan berries and the array of mushrooms found in the Cairngorms National Park. Peter introduced a daily changing menu to incorporate the wonderful seasonal Scottish produce. Peter was made up with the news and was there to accept the award, he wants to give special thanks to the kitchen team.

Peter himself wanted to add –

‘It’s an honour to credit both the hotel and the Cowap family with this prestigious award. All credit goes to the teams on the floor, I can’t thank everyone enough for their hard work, with a special mention to our Sous chef Piotr who drives the kitchen in my absence. We are at a beautiful stage in the journey of Muckrach, and we intend to only further refine our product as the business continues to develop.’
